Skiing Downhill Skiing The best known resort in the Sancy range is Super Besse, which has some 45km of south facing slopes, comprising 27 runs: 7 green, 6 blue, 11 red and 3 black. There is a link to the north facing resort of Le Mont Dore and lift passes may be purchased for individual resorts or the whole area.
Le Mont Dore to the north side of Puy de Sancy, extends over 42 km of piste, with 31 runs - 15 green, 9 blue, 6 red and 1 black. All lifts in both areas are either cable cars, chair or drag lifts. Snow making cannons provide cover on many of the lower slopes and there is floodlit night skiing available in high-season. Lift passes, equipment hire and ski school are very easy to arrange and we are happy to ski with you to show you around the area. As this is very much a local French resort with few overseas visitors, prices are very reasonable.
The main resort in the Cantal mountains to the South is Le Lioran. Again this is a very French resort, and the 60 km of runs are both peaceful and un-crowded. Cross Country Skiing For those who prefer to get away from it all, take a picnic and explore the 284km of cross country trails in the Sancy Ouest area. There are runs to suit all abilities, graded in the same way as the downhill runs. Equipment hire, day passes and tuition are all available at relatively low cost. If you like the thought of visiting these beautiful wooded alpine areas but don't like the idea of the narrow cross country skis, why not try snow shoes? They are readily available, easy to use and allow you to go where no skier has been before!
