Walking & Hiking For casual walkers and serious hikers alike, the Auvergne and it’s peaks provide quite dramatic, yet beautiful surroundings in which to spend your holiday. If you seek the challenge of walking some long distance paths (GR’s) in the high mountains or the shorter (PR’s) in the foothills, the region can offer both.
Puy de Sancy, the highest peak in Central France at 1885m, is
reached
from the ski resorts of Le Mont Dore or Super Besse, using GR4 or GR30 and the
views from the top are far-reaching. From here, the Chaufour valley is easily
reached; a haven for flora and fauna. Bagnols is less than a mile from our house and at the far end of the village in the Bois de Burols, is a forest fitness trail, which incorporates gentle exercises with a pleasant woodland walk. Spend some time enjoying this or our nearest forest walks, only two minutes away. There are numerous guide books and maps available to cover the Sancy area and we are happy to point you in the right direction. We have walked many of the mountain routes ourselves and can give you an idea of the best walks on any given day. Please remember, as with any activity in the mountains, you should ensure you have adequate nourishment and clothing. We have a small supply of waterproof clothing for guests to borrow and as with other activities, we can prepare you a picnic lunch and even arrange a drop off and pick up service.
